Niagara Children's Centre School Authority (NCCSA) is the education partner of Niagara Children's Centre, a children's treatment Centre located in St. Catharines, Ontario, that offers a range of programs and services to children and adolescents with special needs. NCCSA is a publicly funded program under Section 68 of the Education Act. The school weaves educational and therapeutic goals together for students with communication and/or physical disabilities. It is one of six Children's Treatment Centre School Authorities in the province of Ontario.

The position is available on a one (1) year secondment basis for the 2025-2026 school year, for an Educational Assistant who is currently employed on a full-time permanent basis by the District School Board of Niagara. DSBN EAs employed part-time, on a Long Term Occasional or Supply basis, are not eligible to apply for this secondment position.
The successful applicant will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team, working in collaboration with the classroom teacher, the school-based team and therapists to provide supports for students with complex communication, physical and learning needs . This skilled team member will be instrumental in supporting the student in the areas of communication, the integration of therapy throughout the school day, self-regulation, mobility and activities of daily living. The applicant will work closely with the classroom teacher to cultivate an individualized and inclusive environment for each student as well as assist with implementing the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). The applicant will differentiate and purposefully plan supports, incorporating ABA strategies to promote independence for students .

Skills, Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
● Applicants must be graduates of a College of Applied Arts & Technology in Educational Assistance and Adult Supports Program (formerly Educational Assistants - Special Needs Support) (preferred), Developmental Handicap Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker or comparable post-secondary training deemed equivalent .
● Significant Educational Assistant experience in a variety of classroom settings is required .
● Applicants must demonstrate excellent communication skills .
● Applicants must demonstrate the ability to deal with classroom management and emergency situations and to take appropriate actions. based on established Board policies and procedures.
● Applicants with experience supporting students to develop early communication skills and an understanding of alternative and augmentative communication are preferred.
● Applicants must have the ability to stand/walk for extended periods and have the capability to move and carry equipment for program activities is an essential contribution .
● Must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting, toileting).
● Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with children, parents/guardians, staff and the general public and an understanding and commitment to confidentiality.
● Preference will be given to applicants with valid CPR "C" certification , as well as valid First Aid and BMS certification.

Interview Process:
● Interviews are conducted with Administration, NCC School Human Resources Administrator, and a DSBN Employee Services representative;
● Interviews are conducted using a traditional question and answer process;

Conditions of Employment:
● Agreement to comply with the NCCSA Board policies, procedures, and code of conduct;
● Completion of annual offence declaration;
● Adherence to secondment agreement between DSBN, NCCSA and employee.
