POSITION:  Temporary/Term Position International Languages Elementary Instructor

LOCATION:  Working within the DSBN Secondary Schools

RATE OF PAY:   $25.47 per hour

SCHEDULE:   2.5 hours per week


Position Summary:

The board is currently seeking enthusiastic instructors to teach elementary level language classes in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.

Classes run weekly and are designed to engage students in learning a new language while exploring cultural traditions. Please note that there are no guaranteed hours associated with this position.

This position is a temporary contract position until June 2026 with possibility of renewal based on continued funding and enrolment. 


  • The International Language Instructor will provide language instruction to elementary students ( ELKP – Grade 8) by developing and facilitating carefully thought-out lesson plans. Instruction must include a range of activities that will provide listening, reading, writing, and engaging learning opportunities for students. The Language Instructor will create a supportive, welcoming, and dynamic learning environment for students, while promoting positive student behavior.
  • Positions are contingent upon sufficient program/course enrollment
  • Instruct target language to students at various ages and levels of instruction
  • Plan and deliver a program that is optimal for language learning
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students
  • Develop and maintain an equitable and inclusive learning environment
  • Provide supervision of students assigned to the class
  • Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate supports as necessary
  • Communicate student progress to ILE Program Coordinator , parents/guardians, and students
  • Track and report attendance to the ILE Program Coordinator on a monthly basis
  • Other applicable duties as assigned, to carry out the requirements of operating a language instruction classroom
  • Follow the Permit and Rental Services permit rules and regulations

Qualification:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Training in teaching the language of study
  • Experience and training in teaching languages or a teaching degree and fluency in the language being taught (elementary preferable)
  • Strong ability to read, write and speak in both the language being taught and English languages
  • Familiarity with language instruction methodologies and commitment to inclusive teaching practice
  • Strong communication , interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and to be flexible
  • Related degree or diploma
  • Provision of a satisfactory Police Clearance including Vulnerable Sector Screening from the last 6 months (or ability to obtain one) is a condition of employment.
